Photo Urns: Laminating Pictures to Your Pet Urn
How to laminate pictures to your urn and create a beautiful photo urn.
Before you laminate pictures of your pet to your urn, you should stain your urn with a wood stain. Do this by moistening a piece of soft cloth with whatever color of stain you are going to use and then wiping down the wood with it, including the the part of the urn you have engraved. Wait an hour after you have stained it and if it is not dark enough stain it again. After the final coat of stain wait a full 24 hours before you laminate your pictures to it.
When you are ready to laminate pictures of your pet to your urn it is recommended that you only use pictures that you have copies of or still have the original negatives. Take the first picture and line the edges of the back of the picture quickly and lightly with super glue and also place a little bit of glue in the center of the back side of the picture. Quicly place the photo on the urn where it is supposed to go hold it firmly for a minute while the glue dries. Do this one by one with each of the photos you would like to laminate on your urn.
Now that you have all of your pictures glued to your urn you are ready to laminate the photos and the urn. You will want to do this in an area where there is not much dust floating around. It is also recommended that you wear a breathing mask or at least a scarf around your mouth while spraying. Using the Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic coating, hold the can about 10 inches away from the urn and spray the sides and the top of the urn, in that order (you can laminate the bottom last if you want to). Wait 30 minutes to an hour for it to dry and spray the sides and the top again. You can continue this process of waiting 1 hour and adding another coat of spray as many times as you would like but 4 coats will probably be enough. Wait 24 hours after you have applied the final coat before you turn the urn on it's side in order to spray the bottom. Then wait 24 hours after your final coat on the bottom before you rest the urn on it's bottom somewhere.
Note: If you want a really thick glossy coat you can use a cheap $1.00 paintbrush and coat the wood urn with Krylon Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze.
That's it, your urn is done. I hope you have created a beautiful wood urn that you feel is as special and unique as your beloved pet was.
My sincere condolences for your loss.
